Keep going

Lift up your tired hands, then, and strengthen your trembling knees! Keep walking on straight paths, so that the lame foot may not be disabled, but instead be healed.

Hebrews 12 : 12 - 13 (GNB)

Have you ever pushed yourself so hard that your hands or knees have started trembling? Maybe you were trekking, running or doing some DIY. When you get into this situation the logical thing to want to do is collapse in a heap, to stop and take a break.

It can feel the same as we go through our lives. We make ourselves so busy with work, school, church, family and friends. We rush about to the point where we are shattered. At these points it can be hard to keep focus, and we end up veering all over the place instead of going straight the way that God intended.

So what can we learn from this? One view could be to take a step back or slow down so that we don't burn up our energy too quickly. However this isn't what we are told to do in our passage, we are told to keep going... to continue full steam ahead... not to let up even a little! The way that we do this is the important factor and is essential to your success.

As we have already said we cannot sustain our demanding lives by ourselves. It drains our limited energy. This is the part that we need to change. Instead of relying on ourselves to get ourselves through it, we need to look to something bigger and more powerful.

We need to turn to and rely on God. When we rely on God we have access to all of the power that we could possibly need, with much more to spare. When we choose to rely on God we can do much more than we could have ever hoped for when doing it alone.

We can rely on God to power us through the most demanding of situations. We just need to trust in him, keep going and not give up. Have a great week.

Also, next weekend my Dad and I are running the Great South Run. I am running on behalf of the Alzheimers Society. If you have a few quid that you can spare it would be great if you could encourage me to keep going for the full 10 miles and sponsor me: http://bit.ly/2cU6Y8Z

This week's song is I can't quit by Capital Kings featuring Reconcile.
