Just one little child

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

Isaiah 9 : 6 - 7 (NIVUK)

It is almost that time of year again. We are rapidly approaching the third Sunday in Advent and the whole country is busy preparing themselves for the big day.

I am sure that you are familiar with the Christmas story, if not Luke 2 : 1 - 21 gives you a good round up. The thing I want to focus on today isn't the wise men, the shepherds, the angels, the stable or even Mary or Joseph. The thing we are going to think about is the one little baby in the middle of it all.

This one little baby, Jesus, would have looked like, sounded like and smelt like any other newly born infant. He wouldn't have had a halo or been basked in heavenly light wherever he crawled. Neither did he poo diamonds or fire laser beams out of his eyes. He was from all appearances a ordinary human child.

He was however incredibly special, arguably the most special child to ever be born. This child wasn't just born of human parents but of God. He was brought into the world with a great purpose which would change the course of history forever.

This one little baby, who's birth had been foretold by prophets (messengers of God) for centuries entered the world in the most modest of surroundings, a stable. Despite his humble beginning this little baby grew up to become the wonderful counsellor, prince of peace and mighty God that Isaiah predicted that he would be.

In fact his birth is the only thing which has given you a future. Have a great week.

This week's song is This is not a test by Toby Mac.
