It's a trap!

The fear of man is a dangerous trap, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe. Many seek the ruler's favour, but justice comes from the LORD.

Proverbs 29 : 25 - 26 (DASV)

In our world bad and downright evil things happen. Such events have an impact on all of us both individually and collectively as a nation and global community. No matter how near or far we are from horrendous events that take place. Events such as the terrorist attacks that have recently taken place in Paris, Beirut, Nigeria and many other places across the world.

When we hear about such stories unfolding in the news it seems natural for us to become fearful. This fear and anxiety remains with us as we go about our daily lives. The media thrives on bad news. It is easy to be swept into a world of doom and gloom after reading the wave of frightful headlines that will always follow. However as we see in our passage today fear of mankind is a trap. As Christians we have an alternative, a way to avoid the trap of fear and continue our lives.

Instead of fearing evil and the resulting violence and turmoil we should trust that God is stronger. Our God is a God of infinite love and power. He is far stronger than any individual, group or even nation. Our God will defend those who trust him until the end of time itself. We need to trust that God has a plan no matter how chaotic and scary events in the world seem. A plan full of hope, justice and peace.

This week when you read the papers or watch the news do not let fear creep in. Instead trust in God and know that he has a plan just for you, trust that he will continue to keep you safe and give you a bright future. Have a great week.
