Designed to be different

Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God — what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.

Romans 12 : 2 (GNB)

In general it is human nature to follow the crowd and try and fit in with everyone else around us. Much of the time we do this without even realising it, as it is so natural for us to do. However, God doesn't want you to be boring and simply blend in with the rest of humanity. He has better plans for you than that, he has designed you to be different!

For us humans who like everything to be neat, tidy and uniform different can seem like a bad thing, different may conjure up images of bearded ladies and freak shows. However different does not have to mean weird, freaky or defective. GodÂ’s intention for making you different is to make you unique, a trend setter, someone special and someone remarkable! People will notice your uniqueness though the choices you make, and the actions you take.

As we see from the passage you can be a remarkably different person but look exactly the same! God makes changes to us from the inside out. Changing the way that you think, and the way that you see the world. No longer will you see the world from the dreary self-centred angle that most people see. Instead you will see a different view, one full of vibrancy, hope and community. A God centred perspective that is so much bigger than our day-to-day lives.

This week remember that you are designed to be different! If you feel like a number, or that you are simply part of the crowd there is something wrong! Ask God to help you make a change inside you. Ask him to help you to see life from a new perspective, so that you can step out knowing that you are different by design. You will find that different is much more exciting than normal. Have a great week.
